We’re often asked, what is the ideal promotional gift and how can it work for me?
The simple answer is that everyone’s needs are slightly different, so it’s almost impossible to give a definitive answer. We say ‘almost’ because if you know who you are targeting, know your brand, budget and timescale, and would like some creative input, then we are much closer to finding the right answer for you…
Who is the gift for?
The choice of gift will certainly be influenced by whoever is your intended recipient. If it’s a giveaway or incentive to be mailed out to potential clients, choose something that will make your brand stand out from the crowd. A product that sits on your recipient’s desk or used regularly will help keep your brand, name or telephone number in their thoughts each day. If it’s a thank-you gift for existing clients or a reward for staff, then you need to carefully consider what gift would make them feel appreciated.
Should the gift tie-in with your brand?
If you can find a product that clearly represents your business or service it can be a compelling way to enhance your message. For example, USB drives moulded into a shape that is easily identifiable with the brand have proved very popular. You could also look at choosing promotional items in your corporate colours. Many items we source are available in a wide range of colours that can easily be associated with your brand.
Before making your choice, ask us what the possibilities are for branding and personalising your gift. Can your logo be reproduced accurately (particularly at small sizes) and will the branding area on your chosen product fit all the information you want to display? Some items can be printed ‘all-over’ for a better tie-in with your brand.
Is the gift useful?
Selecting a gift your recipient will find useful is of great importance. If the beneficiary cannot find a good use for your gift, there’s every chance it will be put away and forgotten about or simply thrown in the bin! You therefore need to ask yourself would I like to receive this product and would I use it?
People will regularly keep and use the ‘safer choice’ of promotional gifts – such as pens, mugs, keyrings, notebooks, calendars and USB drives – so these shouldn’t be overlooked in the search for ‘something different’. Technological gifts such as power banks and bluetooth speakers have become firm favourites because they’re both desirable and useful.
What is your budget?
Your budget is obviously a major consideration, so you might need to decide whether a high quality, more expensive gift for a smaller number of prospects or a cheaper item for a wider audience is the most effective way of getting your message across.
Some products will only be cost-effective if produced in large batches, so for these items you will need to take minimum order quantities into account. If you are planning to use the gift as part of a direct mail campaign, you should also think about how practical and expensive an item is going to be to distribute. Something flat and light – like a t-shirt, mousemat or microfibre cloth – is much cheaper to post.
What is the timescale?
Lastly, but actually one of the first things you need to think about, is when do you require your promotional gift? Most items from our catalogue can usually be branded and delivered pretty quickly, but if you require something a little different and with lots of customisation it will take longer. For bespoke items that need to be specially made you need to consider the time to source, manufacture, test and pass any safety requirements (if applicable) and then of course ship (usually from overseas) before you can take delivery.
